Obligatory Freelance Author I Am Up For An Award Post
Greetings from the other side, Garbagetowners!
I have been quiet, I know, but only because I was finishing a book, and had to give all my energy to that, leaving little for the trashfire world in which we all burn as one.
Turns out itβs still on fire, so I didnβt miss much. But will be back posting again next week.
In the meantimeβ¦
I have to do a word from our sponsors thing, except in this case our sponsors is my actual job and doing stuff for it.
Now, words cannot begin to express how much I hate making these kinds of posts. Iβm sure you hate reading them too!
LETβS GET THROUGH IT TOGETHER.
Those of you who know me from my day job may already know, but in case you only know me here, or otherwise have not heard, I was and am incredibly honored to be nominated for the Hugo Award for my spooky queer summer gothic novelette, When He Calls Your Name.
If you donβt know what a Hugo is, itβs like the Oscars for science fiction and fantasy. (Mostly science fiction.)
What you might not know is that anyone is allowed to vote for this award. And every vote genuinely makes a huge difference, especially in short fiction categories. Weβre a small family compared to most--this stuff really matters. Your voice in the present and future of the genre really matters.
To vote, all you need to do is buy a supporting membership to the World Science fiction convention here: lacon.org/register for $50.
But for $50, you get copies of everything that was nominated, which is a massive pile of books worth far more than $50.
Then you fill out your ballot (itβs RCV--Mainers know what to do! for everyone else: rank your favorites; if you didnβt read everything you can just put the ones you did read in order and leave the rest blank) and vote away.
You have until Saturday, August 8th, midnight pacific time.
I highly encourage anyone interested to get a membership and take a look at the beautiful works nominated. If you like my little novelette, which definitely has a twist to delight anyone who likes music even a little, consider voting for it! Bonus: such would certainly lead to fewer annoying posts like this. Little known fact, but Iβm pretty much the Susan Lucci of Hugos at this point. Iβve lost 11 of them! I am EXTREMELY GOOD at losing! (Iβve won two, but for podcasting, never fiction, and with a large group, never alone.) Itβd be fun to break that streak...eventually...
But I donβt expect it whatsoever. I choose to focus on my stupid sparkly dress and getting to see my friends in LA.
Nevertheless!

The awards are the last weekend of August--win or lose, I will have many sparkling photos to share from the red carpet! Which may or may not be red, or a carpet!
