90s British Rock Frontman Steps Away From Music Amid Ongoing Health Concerns
Chris Helme is best known as the singer of the mid-90s British alternative rock band The Seahorses. The band was formed by guitarist John Squire after he left the Stone Roses. Following the bandβs split in 1999, Helme formed The Yards in the early 2000s. He later pursued a solo career, releasing his debut album, Ashes, in 2008. Ultimately, Helme has released four solo albums.
In a recent Instagram post on October 23, 2026, Chris Helme announced that heβll be stepping away from touring and traveling to focus on his health. The post read, βHi everybody. As you all know, my health hasnβt been great of late. So after having many conversations with my doctor and my medical team, theyβve told me that I need to take the rest of 2026 off from touring and traveling, and spend my time recuperating and recovering so that Iβm fighting fit for 2027. The gigs will be rescheduled for next year.β
Helme added, βPlease believe me when I say I canβt wait to get out and gig again. This situation is less than ideal, but I wonβt be wasting my time twiddling my thumbs, sat in front of the TV scoffing chocolate. Iβll be in my studio making new noises for new projects. See you all next year, and thank you all for your support.β
Helme Was Expected To Front a Full Band Again
This news comes just weeks after an announcement that Helme would once again be fronting a full band. The Church Venue in Kidderminster posted the announcement and a video on October 10, 2026. It read, βAn exclusive look at Chris Helme and his band rehearsing βBlinded By The Sunβ as they prepare for Chrisβs return to fronting a full band, and they will be bringing it to us HERE at The Church in Kidderminster.β
The post came after Helme had already announced other cancellations. On September 23, he posted a message on Instagram canceling a show in Nottingham following βan attack of suspected labyrinthitis or vertigo.β He said he became βincredibly dizzy, and the whole hospital car park was spinning.β On September 30, Helme also announced that he would need to reschedule shows in Newport and Ruthin for new dates in 2027.
The concert at The Church was originally scheduled for November 8, but the venueβs official ticketing page now lists the full-band performance for April 17, 2027. The venueβs promotional description still references the original November show.
