Magic: The Gathering’s Top Modern Deck (And How To Counter It)

16 October 2026 at 16:28

Reality Fracture adds a lot of new cards to the arsenal for Magic: The Gathering players, but one deck continues to dominate the field in the Modern format metagame.

All The Most Popular Decks in the Modern Metagame

Magic: The Gathering’s Modern format doesn’t have as many major shakeups as a rotating format like Standard, but a new set launch tends to bring a few new staples into the card pool that can have an impact.

At this point in the season, enough tournaments have taken place after the Reality Fracture launch for the number crunchers to begin studying what sort of impact the new set has had. Frank Karsten’s latest Metagame Mentor report reveals that Broodscale Combo is dominating the format by taking up 17.3% of the field and boasting an impressive 54.8% match win rate.

“Decks with poor matchups against Broodscale Combo, such as Esper Goryo’s, Esper Blink, Eldrazi Tron, Boros Land Destruction, and Dimir Midrange, are gradually declining in popularity… At the same time, decks with favorable matchups against Broodscale Combo, including properly tuned Boros Energy, Jeskai Blink, Jeskai Chant, and Azorius Chant, have been climbing in popularity. Azorius Chant in particular went 149-76 against Broodscale Combo across the last five Regional Championships, good for a 66% matchup. As a result, Azorius Chant has emerged as one of the best ways to defeat Broodscale Combo.”

Here is the full breakdown of the most popular decks in the Modern format as of mid-October 2026 (in order of popularity and performance):

  • Broodscale Combo
  • Izzet Prowess
  • Boros Energy
  • Esper Blink
  • Izzet Affinity
  • Azorius Chant
  • Domain Zoo
  • Esper Goryo’s
  • Eldrazi Tron
  • Devoted Druid Combo
  • Amulet Titan
  • Ruby Storm
  • Dimir Midrange
  • Jeskai Blink
  • Boros Land Destruction
  • Living End
  • Rakdos Delirium
  • Simic Neoform
  • Jeskai Chant
  • Tameshi Belcher
  • Eldrazi Trudge
  • Other

For those who are less familiar with this format, Modern is a nonrotating 60-card format based on expansion sets, core sets, and straight-to-Modern sets from Eighth Edition forward, save for cards on the banned list.

Although Broodscale Combo is likely to be a top performer at upcoming tournaments, it sounds like there are plenty of decks that specialize in countering that strategy that players can bring to the table if they want to try and play the underdog and fight back against the top deck.

Dungeons and Dragons: World of Warcraft – How To Play an Arms, Fury, or Protection Warrior

16 October 2026 at 14:32

Dungeons and Dragons players will have every World of Warcraft class and specialization to pick from when they begin their tabletop adventures in Azeroth, including all three Warrior specializations.

Selecting A D&D Fighter Subclass To Bring WoW Warrior Specs To The Table

Dungeons and Dragons players have an overwhelming number of class/specialization combos to select from as they begin their World of Warcraft campaigns, but players who have narrowed things down to a Warrior have made a good start.

The World of Warcraft Warrior class doesn’t have a 1:1 match in Dungeons and Dragons, but the Fighter class is well-suited bring this WoW class to life at the tabletop.

“Warriors: for when you need a really big axe—which is oftentimes the case in a world of monsters, magic, egos, and armor. A skilled Warrior knocks monsters to the floor, slays enemy tanks, and terrorizes opposing magic users.”

When playing a Warrior, you’ll choose the Fighter class. Warriors specialize in Arms, Fury, or Protection.

Arms Warrior – Deliver devastating blows with two-handed weapons.

The Arms Warrior selects the Battle Master subclass and uses two-handed weapons such as the Greataxe, Greatsword, or Maul to control the battlefield.

Fury Warrior – Become a master of carnage, wielding a weapon in each hand to maximize destruction.

The Fury Warrior selects the Champion subclass and dual-wields weapons (often Scimitars) to push a relentless offense. (Note: Fury Warriors may want to consider instead choosing the Barbarian class and Berserker subclass.)

Protection Warrior – Counter incoming attacks, using your shield to protect your allies as well as yourself.

The Protection Warrior uses the Battle Master subclass to consistently step between their comrades and danger.

Additionally, Warriors who use the Battle Master subclass will gain access to five brand-new maneuver options in the WoW gameplay expansion rules.

That should be just about everything players need to know to start planning out their Warrior builds before the new book arrives in November.

Dungeons and Dragons Reveals More Details About All Nine World of Warcraft Subclasses

15 October 2026 at 15:28

The Dungeons and Dragons: World of Warcraft gameplay expansion release date is approaching quickly and the team behind the book just offered another in-depth preview full of new details about the subclasses that are included.

Dungeons and Dragons Teases New Flavor and Mechanics for World of Warcraft Subclasses

Screenshot: Wizards of the Coast
Screenshot: Wizards of the Coast

Dungeons and Dragons players are going to have a ton of exciting choices during character creation for World of Warcraft adventures and campaigns. The extensive new gameplay expansion explains how to bring all WoW classes and every specialization to life at the tabletop.

Although many of the classes and specializations map to existing D&D subclasses, there are nine new or updated subclasses for players to check out, as well. These subclasses were announced earlier, but a new update offers some additional details about the flavor of each subclass and how its mechanics will work.

Here is a breakdown of the biggest new insights from the latest extensive Dungeons and Dragons: World of Warcraft gameplay expansion preview:

  • Oath of the Ebon Blade (Death Knight)
    • The Oath of the Ebon Blade subclass adjusts some features in the core Paladin class from the Player’s Handbook. For example, Death Coil replaces Lay on Hands with a pool of dice that can be used to deal damage to enemies or restore Hit Points to Undead, and Runic Smite replaces Paladin’s Smite by swapping the Divine Smite spell with Rune Strike, which deals Necrotic damage instead of Radiant.
    • Their Runeforging feature grants their primary weapon a rune that bestows a unique ability according to the Death Knight’s specialization: Blood, which manipulates life energy; Frost, which calls upon the forces of winter to slow and shatter foes; or Unholy, which curses and debilitates opponents. When they need to make a hit count, Runic Power allows them to expend a use of Channel Divinity to gain an additional benefit after landing a Rune Strike.
    • As the Death Knight levels up and slays the foes of Azeroth, they’ll use Runic Mastery to activate a powerful once per day ability from the rune on their primary weapon. At their peak, the Death Knight can use a Bonus action to activate their Aspect of the Horsemen, which allows them to gain the benefits of runes outside their specialization.
  • Demon Hunter (Demon Hunter)
    • The Demon Hunter subclass, like the Oath of the Ebon Blade subclass, modifies some of the features in the core class—in this case, Ranger. For example, the Demon Hunter’s Spellcasting Focus is an Arcane Focus (rather than a Druidic Focus) to reflect the nature of the class’ relationship with magic, the Void Warrior option has been added to the Fighting Style feature to allow for Warlock cantrips (rather than Druidic Warrior’s Druid cantrips), and the Ranger’s Feral Senses were replaced with the Demon Hunter’s Improved Spectral Sight to better see through illusions.
    • Demon Hunters harvest the energy of souls to fuel some of their abilities using the Soul Fragments feature. When a nearby enemy dies, a Demon Hunter can collect that soul fragment. Then, later, the Demon Hunter can cast certain spells with those fragments or use the Soul Cleave trait to emit a whirlwind of soul energy that damages nearby enemies and restores Hit Points. With Spectral Sight, even the initiate Demon Hunter has 10 feet of Blindsight.
    • Demon Hunters that have slain many Burning Legion hosts and continued to master the arcane arts will gain the Torment feature, which heightens the power of Hunter’s Mark and keeps a marked target’s focus on the hunter. As the Demon Hunter continues its training, they will use Illidari Knowledge to use soul fragments to cast additional spells, including Counterspell and a new ranged attack spell.
    • As a Demon Hunter hones their skill further, they always start combat with at least one soul fragment and Soul Cleave deals more damage. Once a Demon Hunter reaches the height of their power, no demon or voidwalker or undead pest can escape their Improved Spectral Sight feature and its 30 feet of Truesight.
  • Warrior of Mystic Brews (Monk)
    • Warriors of Mystic Brews gain proficiency in Performance to reflect their skill in passing themselves off as nonsensical or erratic, as well as proficiency in Brewer’s Supplies to prepare them for a future in magical beverage-making. At this same time, these Monks also learn their signature Drunken Technique, which grants them additional speed when they use Patient Defense and allows them to make an Unarmed Strike as part of the same Bonus action.
    • Warriors of Mystic Brews will use the Mystic Brew feature to create potions they can drink that will grant them damage Resistances, a pool of dice that can be used to boost their own healing, or the ability to conjure a Cone of flame. As their skill as a brewer heightens, they can learn new Mystic Brew options, including recipes that bestow luck and improve mobility.
    • Once they’ve fully honed their craft, this Monk uses Master Brewer to mix two recipes into one drink. Then, they’ll use Intoxicated Frenzy to charge throughout a room and attack everybody within reach, knocking them Prone on a hit.
  • Oath of the Holy (Paladin)
    • Once they take their oath, a Holy Paladin will use Oath of the Holy Spells to heal many allies at once, protect their friends from death, and cleanse an ally of a debilitating effect or harmful spell. Additionally, the Beacon of Light feature uses Channel Divinity to wrap an ally with holy energy that restores half as many Hit Points to that ally whenever the Paladin heals anybody else.
    • As the Paladin slays evildoers and rescues the innocent, they will develop a Lightbringer’s Aura to boost their healing abilities even further. Whenever the Holy Paladin heals creatures within its Aura of Protection, the Lightbringer’s Aura will grant them additional Hit Points. Later, with Infusion of Light, the Paladin can restore its own pool of Lay on Hands points by dealing Radiant damage to enemies—in essence, siphoning the power of life from the agents of Evil and delivering it into the hands of the Good (or at least, the Good enough).
    • At the apotheosis of their divine power, the Oath of the Holy Paladin can use their Holy Deliverance feature to boost their Aura of Protection. The aura now emanates sunlight (vampires beware), and Bloodied allies that start their turn in the aura regain Hit Points.
  • Discipline Domain (Priest)
    • The Discipline Domain is a Cleric subclass. Right from the start, Discipline Priests gain access to Discipline Domain spells that will help them shield allies and devastate enemies. Further reinforcing the Discipline Priest’s dedication to balance, their Channel Divinity option Holy Bolt can damage an enemy and heal an ally at the same time. They’ll also use Atonement to grant a temporary blessing to any creature they heal with a spell; then, when they deal damage to a creature, those blessed allies will regain Hit Points! This allows the Discipline Priest to bring multiple party members back from 0 Hit Points without having to cast a spell like Mass Healing Word—instead, they can impose balance upon the universe by damaging enemies and healing allies at the same time.
    • As these Priests further hone their practice, they’ll bestow creatures blessed by Atonement with a Luminous Barrier. This magical ward grants Temporary Hit Points and bestows Resistance to all damage while the creature has those Temporary Hit Points.
    • At the pinnacle of their power, a Discipline Priest can send their Holy Bolt to several enemies at once (healing an equal number of allies in the process, of course), and they can teleport immediately before firing the bolts.
  • Shadow Domain (Priest)
    • The Shadow Domain is also a Cleric subclass. Once a Priest has embraced the darkness, they gain access to Shadow Domain Spells (including several new entries) that prepare them to twist minds, drain life, and call upon forces dangerously close to the Old Gods. A Shadow Priest initiate can also use their Channel Divinity to take on a Shadowform, which allows them to Hide more easily and empowers their spells that deal Psychic or Necrotic damage. And with Devouring Plague, they can siphon health from creatures who fail a saving throw.
    • As they themselves fall deeper and deeper into shadow, the Shadow Priest will be able to take a Reaction that disperses themselves into shadowy energy as a defense mechanism. This Dispersion lasts 1 round, and when it ends, the Shadow Priest can expend Hit Point Dice to regain a massive amount of Hit Points. They can also Fly up to 40 feet, so when they reform into a corporeal champion of Azeroth, they can be out of melee range of the creature that attacked them.
    • At the height of the Shadow Priest’s power, their Shadowform will also restore Hit Points to nearby creatures when they deal Necrotic or Psychic damage to enemies.
  • Swashbuckler (Rogue)
    • Early on in their journey, the Swashbuckler will use Fancy Footwork to evade Opportunity Attacks from creatures they’ve already attacked that turn. When they enter battle, their Rakish Audacity will add a boost to their Initiative, and they can use Sneak Attack when darting into the backlines to solo an enemy mage or archer.
    • As the Swashbuckler duels their way into becoming a master of their craft, their Panache will add new options to their Cunning Strike repertoire, allowing them to goad opponents into attacking them (before Dashing away with Cunning Action!) or Charm creatures for a short time. Leveling up further, the Swashbuckler will add more options with Dashing Strikes, which can invigorate allies or parry enemy strikes.
    • Swashbucklers at the top of their game will use the Master Duelist feature to make an additional attack against a target they just hit with a Sneak Attack.
  • Path of the Spiritual Guardian (Shaman)
    • Once they begin their training, the Path of the Spiritual Guardian Shaman will summon Spiritual Protectors to Distract, Hinder, or Strike the opponent on a hit. As the Shaman continues their adventures in Azeroth, their Spirit Shield will protect nearby allies from harm.
    • At higher levels, the Spiritual Guardian Shaman can use Consult the Spirits to cast certain Divination spells without needing Material components. They may ask the spirits for advice about the party’s latest scheme or rely on them to spy on a nearby location.
    • With their final ability, Spirits’ Fury, this Shaman can make an additional attack when they land a powerful blow, becoming a relentless force of destruction on the battlefield.
  • Path of the Elements (Shaman)
    • A Shaman who has just begun to walk the Path of the Elements will call upon the forces of nature with Raging Elements. While a rage is active, they can use a Bonus action to summon powers of ice, lava, or lightning. These powers build on each other, with Icefury empowering the next instance of Fire damage, Lava Burst empowering the next instance of Lightning damage, and so on. This encourages the Shaman to create balance amongst the chaos by moving from one damage type to another.
    • At higher levels, a Path of the Elements Shaman will use Echo of the Elements to cast certain utility elemental spells by expending a use of Rage. Then, the Primordial Bond feature will cause the elemental magic surging from the Shaman’s rage to bestow a protective effect.
    • In time, the Elemental Overload feature completes their evolution: their Raging Elements options now reduce enemy damage, deal lasting damage, or damage nearby enemies.

That’s a ton of information to absorb, but it seems like Dungeons and Dragons is going all out when it comes to bringing all the flavor of World of Warcraft’s classes and specializations to the tabletop.

Dungeons and Dragons: World of Warcraft – All Factions That Remain Neutral In the Horde Versus Alliance War

14 October 2026 at 16:54

Although many groups in Azeroth are loyal to either the Horde or the Alliance, there are some factions that have not taken a side in the war and maintain strong relationships with both groups. Dungeons and Dragons players may find allies or enemies in each of these groups.

All Subfactions that Haven’t Taken a Side in the Horde/Alliance Conflict

Screenshot: Wizards of the Coast

In any Dungeons and Dragons campaign players have a chance to make friends and foes in each new area they visit. Adventures set in Azeroth and its surrounding realms for the World of Warcraft expansion will definitely be no exception.

The Horde versus Alliance conflict provides a ton of opportunities for politics and combat, but not every faction in the world has taken a side. Depending on where players go and what the DM has planned, there are a handful of factions that parties could run into that have not taken a side in the ongoing Horde and Alliance war.

Here are the biggest neutral factions that parties are likely to run into during their D&D: World of Warcraft games:

  • Argent Dawn – The knightly Order of the Argent Dawn is dedicated to protecting Azeroth from the Burning Legion, the Scourge, and other forces that seek to destroy the world. Neutral in the continual conflict between the Alliance and the Horde, the Argent Dawn calls both factions allies in its higher purpose of resisting these forces of evil. The order’s headquarters is Light’s Hope Chapel, in the Eastern Plaguelands.
  • Cenarion Circle – Named for the demigod Cenarius, the Cenarion Circle is a worldwide order keeping watch over Azeroth’s druids and protecting the natural balance. Since the end of the Third War, the circle has accepted druids from both the Alliance and the Horde.
  • Earthen Ring – The Earthen Ring is a gathering of Azeroth’s most powerful shaman, working together to preserve the balance among the elements. The members of the Earthen Ring oppose destructive forces such as the Twilight’s Hammer cult and the Burning Legion. Insisting on a neutral stance in mortal conflicts, the Earthen Ring welcomes members from both the Alliance and the Horde.
  • Explorers’ League & Reliquary – Affiliated with the Alliance and the Horde respectively, the Explorers’ League and the Reliquary are scholarly organizations dedicated to the practice of archaeology and the study of history. For most of recent history, the organizations were bitter rivals, but with the reemergence of the Dragon Isles and the discovery of Khaz Algar, the two have set aside their old rivalry and formed joint expeditions.
  • Kirin Tor – The Kirin Tor began as a secretive mages’ guild within the Empire of Arathor. With the fall of Arathor, Dalaran became a nation in its own right, and the Council of Six who led the Kirin Tor became the rulers of this city-state. Razed during the Third War, Dalaran was eventually transformed into a flying island. Above the Isle of Dorn in Khaz Algar, it met its doom, but the survivors of the Kirin Tor remain in Dornogal, coordinating the magical defense of Azeroth.
  • Steamwheedle Cartel – The Steamwheedle Cartel is one of the largest and richest goblin cartels, having maintained a careful neutrality in the conflict between the Alliance and the Horde since the Second War. The cartel’s hands are in virtually every line of work, with a specialty in premium-grade alchemy. Besides potions, the cartel also deals in fuels, poisons, and industrial chemicals—what some goblins describe as “liquid assets.”
  • Valdrakken Accord – The Valdrakken Accord is the unified might of all dragonkind, seeking to protect not only the Dragon Isles but all of Azeroth according to the ancient charge given to the five Dragon Aspects. The accord has also expanded its mission to include dragons beyond the five flights.

Players who want to tie their background to one of these factions should make sure they consult their Dungeon Master first to ensure that the faction can fit into the larger story that is being pulled together for the full party.

Be sure to check back soon for lots more Dungeons and Dragons news and updates as the World of Warcraft gameplay expansion release date approaches.

Dungeons and Dragons Modern Horror Adventure Adds A New Playable Species and 4 Backgrounds

13 October 2026 at 19:57

Dungeons and Dragons has finally revealed all the details about its new modern horror adventure and the new collection includes some exciting new character options for players to explore.

Unlock The Reborn Species in Project Lamordia

After dropping a very mysterious and creepy teaser trailer a few weeks ago, D&D Beyond and Dungeons and Dragons are finally ready to unveil Project_Lamordia.

“Monsters are now machines, spells become technology, and every unlocked door reveals a darker mystery. Built for eerie adventures and minimal prep, PROJECT_LAMORDIA is ready to run.”

The new modern horror adventure is available through D&D Beyond now for $14.99 and offers a collection of resources for both Dungeons Masters and players. DMs will find three one-shots that they can use to run some scary adventures during spooky season, while players get a brand-new playable species and new Dark Gifts.

Here is a full breakdown of everything included in the Project_Lamordia materials:

  • 3 one-shots that can be connected into a full adventure, each with a map to traverse through the haunted halls of Mordenheim Kinetics
  • 1 character species, the Reborn, whose consciousness was uploaded into a synthetic body after death
  • 4 new character backgrounds and 4 feats (Dark Gifts)
  • New mechanics to help you play desperate survivors in a modern world, including 4 preset playable stat blocks
  • 5 monstrous stat blocks blending gothic dread and technological horror
  • Terrify your table instantly with Project_Lamordia’s Quickplay Maps, complete with preloaded creature tokens, fog of war, and Scene Prep notes pinned to each map

Use a new species, the Reborn, who died on Mordenheim Kinetics’ operating table and woke up in a synthetic shell, with origin tables that decide what their memories lost in translation.

Players can also step into the role of a survivor with new backgrounds and feats designed for this techno-horror adventure.

It should be very exciting to see how many players and DMs embrace this new content and experiment with the modern horror settings over the next few weeks. The three one-shot adventures can be tackles as standalone content or woven into a large narrative.

Magic: The Gathering Clarifies If God Packs Are Also Coming to Magic Arena

9 October 2026 at 15:16

Magic: The Gathering recently announced a huge change coming to Play and Collector’s booster packs in 2027, but the original announcement left some fans of the digital version of the game curious how they would be impacted.

Yes, God Packs ARe Coming to MAgic Arena

Screenshot: Wizards of the Coast
Screenshot: Wizards of the Coast

Earlier this week, Wizards of the Coast confirmed that God Packs are going to be added to the Magic: The Gathering booster printings starting in 2027 with the release of Nauctis: The Sunken Realm.

God Packs are an extra rare booster that will be stacked with rares and mythic rares in every nonbasic card slot. According to the announcement, Starting with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm and continuing with each Magic Multiverse set going forward (with Universes Beyond sets expected in 2028), 1 in every 1,000 Booster Packs will contain 14 rare or mythic rare cards.

Additionally, 1 in every 300 Collector Boosters will be a special Collector Booster God Pack.

That is all very exciting for players who crack open physical booster packs a lot, but Magic Arena players have been curious if they’ll be able to open the super rare packs. According to a new update from the Magic Arena team, God Packs will be coming to the digital platform.

MTG Arena will be updating its packs alongside tabletop Magic, with Store packs on MTG Arena getting a take on God Packs. God Packs will not be part of Limited formats, like Draft and Sealed, on MTG Arena. More details to come as we get closer to the release of Nauctis: The Sunken Realm.

It is a bit disappointing that packs opened in Limited formats cannot be God Packs, since that is the most common booster opening experience for many players. God Packs would be unfair and ruin the balance of a Draft or Sealed tournament, which is likely part of the reason they can’t be opened there.

If a God Pack is opened at an in-person Limited events, the official recommendation is for the player to pocket the full pack and for the tournament organizer to provide a replacement pack at no additional cost to the player.

Magic: The Gathering fans are still months away from the first God Packs arriving with the Nauctis: The Sunken Realm launch, so we may learn more in the coming months before the hunt begins.

Be sure to check back soon for lots more Magic: The Gathering news and updates.

Magic: The Gathering – Top Standard Decks and Most Played Cards After First Reality Fracture Tournaments

8 October 2026 at 21:18

Reality Fracture has been in the wild long enough to shake up the metagame and Magic: The Gathering number crunchers are already figuring out which decks are rising to the top after the first few Standard tournaments of the Reality Fracture era.

Top Standard Decks of the Week and Most Played Reality Fracture Cards

Screenshot: Wizards of the Coast
Screenshot: Wizards of the Coast

Reality Fracture dropped a ton of powerful new cards into the Standard metagame for Magic: The Gathering and players have already been busy incorporating them into new and existing archetypes.

The first handful of big Standard tournaments have come and gone since Reality Fracture was released and Frank Karsten has updated his top archetypes and most-played cards list for the first big Reality Fracture shakeup.

Here is a look at the top decks after the first week of Standard tournaments during the Reality Fracture era:

  • Izzet Spellementals
  • Dimir Midrange
  • Jund Sacrifice
  • Orzhov Life Gain
  • Boros Dragons
  • Four-Color Control
  • Mono-Green Landfall
  • Azorius Artifacts
  • Azorius Control
  • Izzet Prowess
  • Rakdos Lizards
  • Golgari Midrange
  • Abzan Life Gain
  • Dimir Excruciator
  • Azorius Momo
  • Sultai Reanimator
  • Jeskai Control
  • Boros Mobilize
  • Izzet Aggro
  • Boros Dwarves

One of the biggest changes from two weeks ago is that Boros Dragons has become much more popular and powerful. According to Karsten’s analysis, “It’s well-positioned against that breakout deck because Clarion Conqueror prevents Jund Sacrifice players from activating the sacrifice abilities on their artifacts and creatures.”

Orzhov Life Gain, Izzet Prowess, and Rakdos Lizards all grew in popularity after the Reality Fracture launch, as well.

Thanks to the popularity of those archetypes, these cards have emerged as the most-played cards from Reality Fracture so far:

  • Pompous Battlemage
  • Ajani Resolute
  • Master of Barbs
  • Chandra, Torch of Defiance
  • Liliana the Faultless
  • Stingerquill Charm
  • The Theorist, Jace Beleren
  • Seasoned Cryomancer
  • Shipwreck Marsh
  • Enlightened Confidant
  • Ingris Stingerquill
  • Deserted Beach
  • Vraska, the Cutting Glare
  • Simulacrum Shaper
  • Way of the Pyromancer
  • Terminal Criticism
  • Chandra, Chill of Compliance
  • Haunted Ridge
  • Stingcaster Mage
  • Ajani Unrelenting
  • Countersculpt
  • Way of the Paradox
  • Tarmogoyf
  • Theorix Charm
  • Dark Matter Manipulator

Reality Fracture is still fairly new, so players should expect more shakeups to occur in the coming weeks as players adjust to the new metagame and develop counter strategies.

Be sure to check back soon for lots more Magic: The Gathering news and updates as the Reality Fracture season continues.

Magic: The Gathering Confirms God Pack Plans Starting in 2027

5 October 2026 at 19:18

Magic: The Gathering is making a handful of big changes to booster packs in 2027 that will remove some less popular slots and give collectors a new God Pack distribution to chase down.

Magic: The Gathering Is Adding God Packs and Removing Less Popular Less Slots

Screenshot: Wizards of the Coast
Screenshot: Wizards of the Coast

Magic: The Gathering just announced some major incoming changes to Play and Collectors Boosters that are going to be arriving in 2027.

Starting with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm and continuing with each Magic Multiverse set going forward (with Universes Beyond sets expected in 2028), 1 in every 1,000 Booster Packs will contain 14 rare or mythic rare cards.

  • 1 God Pack celebration card
  • 10 Non-foil rare and/or mythic rare cards
  • 2 Non-foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards
  • 2 Traditional foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards

Additionally, God Packs in Collector Boosters ramp up the excitement even more, with a distribution of 1 in every 300 Collector Boosters.

  • 1 God Pack celebration card
  • 1 Foil land
  • 3 Foil default frame rare and/or mythic rare cards
  • 3 Non-foil Booster Fun rare and/or mythic rare cards

The addition of God Packs is very exciting for collectors, but those aren’t the only changes coming to Play and Collectors boosters next year.

Wizards of the Coast is removing foil common and uncommon cards from Booster Packs, and we’re no longer guaranteeing a foil card in every pack. Feedback from players has consistently been that these have lost the luster they might have once had. If you do open a foil card in a Booster Pack, it will be a rare or mythic rare card.

Similarly, Collector Boosters will be removing two commons and one uncommon from the foil slots, and those three cards will not be replaced. The common and uncommon cards were the least-exciting parts of these opening experiences and were often passed over. The team is still keeping some number of foil common and uncommon cards in Collector Boosters, as they won’t be available in Booster Packs.

Be sure to check back soon for lots more Magic: The Gathering news and updates.
